Apple For The Teacher
Apple for the Teacher is a $300 grant designed to assist a public or private classroom music teacher from grades kindergarten through fifth grade. A WFMC senior club may nominate one teacher.
Some suggested uses for the award are instrument repair, tuning, transportation to concerts, instrument purchases, posters, tapes, music, musical games, etc.
Ruth Kreuser Music Scholarship
This is a $500 scholarship designed specifically for students between ages 12 through 18 years-of-age, where circumstance finds them ineligible for ored scholarship, grant or monetary award during the current school year.
Perhaps you have an outstanding student with the necessary qualifications who can take advantage of this scholarship opportunity.
Citation Award
The citation award is presented in even-numbered
years to those who demonstrate distinguished service to the cultural, musical
and artistic life of the nation (for the national award) or the community, as
exemplified through the aims of the NFMC, may be nominated. The names of active
officers and chairmen of either National Federation of Music Clubs or State
Federations may not be considered for Citations.
For the State Award, individuals are nominated by members; for the national
award, candidates are nominated by any State Federation through its President,
any National Board Member, or National Chairman.
Jr. Composers
Jr. Composers is a competition with winners and cash prizes at the state, regional and national levels. There are 1st and 2nd place winners in each of the four categories whose compositions are forwarded to the North Central Region. In addition to the possibility of monetary awards, each entrant receives a rating sheet, and points towards earning a gold cup as in the performance area of the Junior Festivals.
This competition is for all junior composers
whether they are experienced in composing or just beginning. Entrants do not
need to be studying composition. Any member of a Junior Club or any Individual
Junior member of the WFMC is eligible. Students through the age of 18, at any
level of ability and through any medium may enter a composition. Previous
entries have included everything from an 8 measure piano piece to a 20 minute
piano quartet; from ragtime to new age; from pieces with very simple rhythm to
those with amazing complexity. In addition, please note that there is an opportunity for entrants in classes III and IV to attend the Junior Composer’s Institute sponsored by the North Central Region of the NFMC. First and second place winners in these two categories are eligible to receive a scholarship from the Wisconsin Federation of Music Clubs towards payment of tuition and fees.

Stillman-Kelley
The Stillman-Kelley competitions and awards are an annual national award. More information and applications are available on the national site.
2011 Stillman-Kelley Winner Announced
Auditions for the bi-annual Stillman-Kelley competition were held on January 30th 2011. The winner has been declared -11 year old John Schindler - Student of Sam Ecoff at the Waukesha County Conservatory of Music.
The winning literature included:
Sonata in E, op 14 no.1 Allegro – by Beethoven
Scherzo No 2 in B Flat minor, Op. 31 by Chopin
Excursion No 3 – Allegretto by Samuel Barber
Mr. Schindler will receive a monetary award from WFMC or $250.00 and will now proceed to the national competition.
