Congratulations also go to her piano teacher, Carol A. Hauer, a member of the Milwaukee Music Teachers Association Senior Club.</p> <p><img class="right" src="images/ShinHauer.jpg" />Michelle is 14 years old and in the 8th grade and has been studying with Carol Hauer since July 2008. She began piano at age 5 in Wisconsin and continued with private lessons after moving to Korea. Upon returning to Wisconsin, she began private studies with Carol. Her desire to gain knowledge and precision on the piano at such a young age is remarkable  her love and devotion to music evident. She has received  Superior ratings in the Wisconsin Federation of Music Clubs annual festivals for the past three years. Michelle has also performed in the WMTA auditions in 2009 and 2010, and has also played in auditions at Wisconsin Lutheran College. She received an  Honorable Mention at the Badger State auditions in 2009. In 2010, Michelle performed in a recital awarded her by the Milwaukee Music Teachers at the Steinway Piano Gallery in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Michelle takes on difficult repertoire with enthusiasm and excitement.</p> <p>Along with working diligently on the piano, Michelle has a deep desire to learn flute, so much so that she taught herself how to play. She has not had any flute lessons and yet achieved second chair in the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Flute Chorale. Her desire is to use the reward money for private flute lessons.</p> <p>The Ruth Kreuser Music Scholarship is a WFMC scholarship designed specifically for students between ages 12 through 18 years of age. It is a competitive award intended to go toward an accomplished student who desires to use the scholarship money to further his or her musical education. Ruth Kreuser was a past WFMC president and board member for many years. She was a strong advocate for music students and teachers through incentives, recognition, advancement and performance. Ruth Kreuser would be proud to see her monetary award go toward such a musically devoted young lady.
